Dinkelsbühl 2026

When Bettina Ruppert von USk Hohenlohe organizes a meetup, it means: don’t miss it! This time, we went once again to Dinkelsbühl — a beautiful, colorful, and compact old town with many old metal shop signs, numerous towers, and of course plenty of tourists.

On Sunday, the Furries from Ulm and the surrounding area gathered for a parade through the town. One of them wanted to be sketched — and I was very happy to do it.

On the second day, Bettina Ruppert had arranged for us — around 40 sketchers — to draw the old wagons in the hall of the Die Kinderzeche children’s and local heritage festival. The atmosphere was great, everyone was deeply focused, and although there were so many people in the hall, it was remarkably quiet — until Marion suddenly asked, “Are you all still there?”

After the hall, I wanted to draw this sculpture of the Kinderzeche, but it was standing in the shade and I was too cold. So in the end, a quick sketch was enough. The Dinkelbauer, on the other hand, was beautifully lit by the sun.

There is no meetup organized by Bettina Ruppert without a night sketch session.

To round things off, we had some wonderfully fun drink & draw evenings.

Thank you, Bettina Ruppert, for these beautiful, cheerful, and wonderfully organized sketching days!

Greifswald 2026

The mUSKetieren announced that they were meeting for a sketching weekend in Greifswald — and we joined them. K. and S. from Berlin and I from Hamburg stayed in a charming holiday apartment in an old fisherman’s house, where we felt very comfortable.

We admired the new cathedral windows by Olafur Eliasson, looked around the beautiful market square, and noticed many lovely details. I very much regret not sketching there. I learned that the university in Greifswald was founded as early as 1456, and I would have loved to sketch one of its buildings.

Beautiful ships were moored along the banks of the Ryck, where we sat in the evening and ate fish.

Because of the cold and the wind, we wandered from café to café. My weather app said: “10 degrees, feels like 1 degree.” In my fortune cookie after a delicious Asian meal, I got the saying: “Laughter brings youth to you.” And that was exactly how it felt!

La Gomera 2026

As in previous years, we spent the winter on La Gomera again this year. Despite more frequent storms, more rain, and a few cooler days, we had eight very lovely weeks there.

We stayed again at Casa Humberto, apartamento uno. We feel at home there. We love sitting on the balcony and watching life in the village.

At first, I was afraid I wouldn’t find any new subjects to draw, because I had already put almost every corner of the island onto paper. Fortunately, I met S. there, who also enjoys drawing. We had a good time together and met several times to sketch — and that’s how I ended up discovering a few new spots after all.

They were wonderful weeks there, and we’re already looking forward to being back on La Gomera next year!
