La Gomera 2024

Back in Hamburg after six wonderful, sunny and exuberant weeks in La Gomera.

The weather was warmer than usual. Lots of calima (desert wind) and sun all over the island. Beautiful for us but sad for nature. The rainforest, which is mostly in fog, was dry and longed for clouds and moisture. It was a good opportunity for me to draw there. As my husband joins me and sketches too we spent an unusually many hours in the forest.

La Gomera is a hiking Island for me. You discover the real beauty while walking in nature. These are moments of happiness.

San Sebastian is the capital of La Gomera, a small, quiet port city. A small tooth problem was the reason for our visit there this time. The only dentist got the matter done quickly and easily.

Vallehermoso is a good start and end point for many hikes. As the name suggests (beautiful valley), it is beautifully situated in the valley not far from the sea. It was so nice to come to the café there at the end of a hike, to reflect with a drink and a small snack and to watch what was going on.

Almost every day we went swimming or strolled along the harbor of Vueltas in the late afternoon. The mountain glowed and changed colors every minute. One day I met with N., a sketcher from Hamburg, who visited Valle Gran Rey for a few days. We sketched together and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Hasta el proximo año!
