Bavaria, sommer 2023

 Bamberg was a three-day stop on the way to Aschau, where we stayed for 10 days.

The old town of Bamberg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. You can find anything that an old town in Bavaria can offer - a majestic cathedral (with 4 towers!), beautiful old buildings, bridges above the river Regnitz and channal, good beer, and many, many tourists.

In Aschau, we stayed in a nice apartment and enjoyed the good summer weather. As we are used to the flat northern German landscape, it's always exciting for me to be surrounded by mountains. I feel a bit like „Heidi“. Riding the bike, hiking, swimming - we were thankful for every day and ended those usually in one of the „Biergarten“ in the area.

Sankt Peter Ording

My husband spent three weeks in a rehab clinic in Sankt Peter Ording, which is on the north west edge of Germany. I joined him for the last week and the sun joined us too! it was a warm summery week accompanied by a lot of wind, which is very typical for this region. The sandy beaches are known for their expanse and at low tide the sea is so far away you can't see it.

Everyday life at the clinic was characterized by regularity. Fixed times for meals and other activities.

In the evening we often went to the Böhl beach and enjoyed the nice, quiet atmosphere in a beach chair.

While my husband was having his treatments, I went for short walks and explored the surroundings.

At the weekend we visited Tetenbüll, Tönning and cycled along the dyke with a tailwind.

La Gomera 2023

Back in cold Hamburg after six weeks of winter escape in Valle Gran Rey, La Gomera. Inspite of some health problems we had a good time, enjoyed the sun, waves, light and this beautiful island.

This time I wanted to experience to sketch with gouache colors . It was a real struggle and I am still not sure if we will become good friends, the gouche and me…
